私が二十歳くらいの頃、
職場の先輩との酒の席で
非常に興味深い話を聞いた。
「宇宙人がいたとして、極端に大きいとか極端に小さいとか
そんな宇宙人はいない。
なぜなら、物質は元素で構成されている。
材料が同じなのだから極端なモノが出来上がるわけがない。」
これにはものすごく感心して、
以来頭の隅にこの考えはある。
最近「五蘊」という仏教用語に興味を持って
調べていたら、この宇宙人に関する考え方と繋がってしまった。
五蘊と言うのは 人間の肉体や精神を指した言葉で、
色・授・想・行・識の5種が集まって人となる、ということ。
色は肉体を表現していて、目に見える物、というニュアンスだろうか。
あとの4種は心のありよう、なんとなく文字の通りに解釈できる。
釈迦が言うには、このモノ自体は実態のないものの集まり、なのだそうだ。
よって、「五蘊すなわち空、空すなわち五蘊」ということらしい。
この五蘊がバランスよく集まっていれば
健やかな状態と言え、
バランスが悪いと身体に不調をきたしたり、
心を病んでしまったりするわけだ。
我々はヒトとしての遺伝子を与えられてこの世に生まれでてきた。
ベースとなる五蘊は一緒だった。
そこから環境の違いというそれぞれの五蘊を
吸収したり排出したりしながら成長して
それぞれの人格を手に入れていく。
一人ひとりは違う五蘊で成り立っているが、
ベースとなっている五蘊は一緒。
だから世界中笑い声は同じだし、悲しければ涙が出る。
目に見えない元素でなりたっている、と
実態のない五蘊でなりたっている、が
つながった、というお話でした。
